Our Story

The Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea, a not-for-profit community aquarium on Sidney's waterfront, connects visitors with the Salish Sea through beautiful marine animal displays, and interactive, informative and hands-wet experiences. Our Salish Sea store is the #1 destination for locally sourced and sustainable gifts, treats and feel-good shopping that reflects this magnificent part of the world.

Since opening in June 2009, our team of staff and volunteers has helped nearly 875,000 visitors learn about the Salish Sea region, its inhabitants and ecosystems, in addition to running school programs and summer camps for 25,000 students and youth. We love to engage with folks of all ages, from all around the globe and to share our knowledge and excitement over all things related to the Salish Sea. Our hope is to inspire learning, exploration and protection of the Salish Sea bioregion.
